Autofocus spherical
Aurora full-frame F1.4 primes and Sniper APS-C F1.2 lenses target photography, gimbal work, self-filming and moving subjects. Available focal lengths and mounts vary within each family.
SIRUI lens review · autofocus, cine and anamorphic optics
SIRUI’s lens catalogue stretches from fast autofocus primes to manual cine, macro and anamorphic systems for multiple sensor formats and mounts. Here is how I approach the range as a working photographer and filmmaker—and how to save 5% on an eligible order.
Simon’s professional perspective
“The best lens is not simply the sharpest one. It is the lens whose rendering, handling and reliability help me create the intended image with the least unnecessary friction.”Simon Songhurst · Photographer & filmmaker
My work moves between commercial photography, branded films, YouTube production and travel filmmaking. That makes specifications only the beginning. I care about focus behaviour, balance, minimum focus, breathing, flare, contrast, skin rendering and whether a set remains visually consistent after the footage reaches the grade.
SIRUI is interesting because it offers practical spherical autofocus lenses alongside deliberately characterful cine and anamorphic systems. An Aurora or Sniper prime answers a different production problem from a Night Walker set, a Jupiter macro or a full-frame Astra, Saturn, Venus or IronStar anamorphic.
I choose the production first and the lens second. Fast self-operated work can favour autofocus; repeatable narrative focus moves may favour manual cine mechanics; anamorphic makes sense only when the squeeze, monitoring, delivery ratio and flare character support the story.
Navigate the current range
Aurora full-frame F1.4 primes and Sniper APS-C F1.2 lenses target photography, gimbal work, self-filming and moving subjects. Available focal lengths and mounts vary within each family.
Night Walker S35, Vision Prime full-frame and Jupiter macro families prioritise cine-style operation and matched production use. Confirm sensor circle, physical dimensions and mount options.
SIRUI offers autofocus and manual anamorphic lenses across full-frame, S35, APS-C and MFT, with different squeeze factors. Each changes framing, de-squeeze and final aspect ratio.
Anamorphic buying guide
A gentler widescreen transformation that can be easier to integrate into common delivery formats. Current SIRUI options include full-frame Astra AF and S35/APS-C/MFT families.
Stronger horizontal expansion and more pronounced anamorphic behaviour. IronStar uses 1.5×, while Saturn and much of the Venus range use 1.6×.
Confirm whether the camera or monitor supports the selected de-squeeze. Plan the acquisition ratio, final crop, stabilisation, reframing and delivery before shooting.
Compatibility before character
Check the exact camera mount against the chosen focal length—not merely the series name. SIRUI lists E, L, Z, X, RF, EF, PL, DL, MFT and other options across different products.
Confirm full-frame, Super 35, APS-C or MFT coverage and account for crop. A compatible physical mount does not guarantee the desired image circle or angle of view.
Review autofocus support, firmware, focus gears, lens weight, filter thread, minimum focus, breathing, squeeze, de-squeeze and clearance with cages or adapters.
From test frame to delivery
I begin with the role: establishing wide, normal perspective, close portrait, macro detail or controlled cinematic set. Then I test the lens on the actual camera, support and focus system, because balance and operation can change whether a technically strong optic remains useful on location.
For spherical autofocus lenses I look at acquisition, tracking, transitions, noise and repeatability. For manual cine glass I assess focus throw, marks, gears and consistency across a set. For anamorphic I add squeeze consistency, close-focus behaviour, flare, edge rendering and monitoring.
The final decision happens in post. I compare skin, highlights, contrast and colour across shots, inspect stabilisation and breathing, then deliver at the real platform resolution. A lens earns a place when the footage cuts together and the production was easier—not simply when one frame looks unusual.
Who the range can suit
Autofocus and lighter lens families can suit self-filming, city sequences and gimbal work. Check total carried weight and whether lens changes undermine the intended simplicity.
Manual cine or anamorphic sets can help maintain mechanics and rendering across planned shots. Production support, monitoring and focus control remain essential.
Spherical AF lenses are usually the most direct crossover. AF anamorphic options expand creative possibilities but require a more deliberate capture and finishing workflow.

Use the mount that exactly matches your camera or an explicitly supported adapter workflow. Availability varies by lens and can include E, L, Z, X, RF, EF, PL, DL and MFT. Verify the product variant before ordering.
No. The range includes full-frame, Super 35, APS-C and Micro Four Thirds designs. Check image-circle coverage as well as mount compatibility to avoid heavy crop or vignetting.
Yes. The current catalogue includes 20mm and 40mm T1.8 1.33× S35 autofocus anamorphic lenses and the Astra 50mm, 75mm and 100mm T1.8 1.33× full-frame autofocus anamorphic family.
It describes how much horizontal information the lens compresses. Footage must be de-squeezed for correct proportions. A larger factor generally creates a wider result from the same recorded frame and can change flare and background character.
SIRUI publishes free firmware downloads for supported autofocus families, including Astra, Aurora, Sniper and its 1.33× S35 AF anamorphic lenses. Follow the instructions for the exact mount and model.
SIRUI’s current policy states a three-year warranty for camera lenses effective from 1 July 2025, subject to the warranty certificate, proof of purchase, authorised-sales requirements and local consumer law.
