Match the lens to the work
Fast normal and short-telephoto primes can provide separation and low-light flexibility. Assess eye-AF consistency, skin rendering, longitudinal colour and working distance.
Air and smaller full-frame primes reduce carried weight. Compare equivalent angle of view, close focus, weather protection and whether the focal length suits a one-lens day.
Test focus transitions, operating noise, breathing, aperture changes and rig balance. A lens that is excellent for stills is not automatically the smoothest motion option.
F1.2–F1.8 lenses collect more light but bring size, cost and shallow-focus demands. Judge wide-open performance and focus hit rate—not the aperture number alone.
Compatibility first

For pocket RGB, panels or COB fixtures, assess output, colour quality, modifiers, fan noise, power options, size and mounting—not simply the number of built-in effects.
