Frames Of Ferrara
Frames Of Ferrara
Shot entirely on the DJI Pocket 4 in beautiful 120fps slow motion, this short cinematic film captures everyday life in the historic city of Ferrara, Italy. Rather than documenting landmarks, my aim was simply to observe the rhythm of the streets—those fleeting moments that often pass unnoticed until they're viewed in slow motion.
This film represents a slightly different direction from my usual travel photography. Instead of searching for individual still images, I wanted to create a moving collection of moments that together tell the story of a place. Ferrara is one of those cities that rewards slowing down. Every narrow street, hidden square and café feels like part of a carefully designed film set. Rather than rushing between landmarks, I spent time simply observing people going about their daily lives.
Everything was filmed using the incredibly compact DJI Pocket 4. Shooting at 120 frames per second allowed me to stretch time just enough for small details to become noticeable—glances between strangers, bicycles weaving through the streets, sunlight moving across old stone buildings and the subtle rhythm of everyday life.
Colour grading was completed in DaVinci Resolve using Dehancer. My aim wasn't to create an overly stylised look, but instead to add a subtle analogue quality that complements the slower pace of the film. The soundtrack comes from Epidemic Sound, whose cinematic music library continues to be one of my favourite creative resources.
Why I'm Creating This Series
Frames Of Ferrara is the first film in what I hope becomes an ongoing collection of cinematic travel journals. Wherever I travel—whether it's Venice, Pescara, London or somewhere completely new—I want to produce a quiet observational film that captures the atmosphere of each destination rather than simply documenting where I visited. These films are designed to be relaxing to watch while hopefully inspiring others to travel, explore and slow down enough to appreciate the beauty hidden within everyday moments.
