01 / Make the workflow work for you

More control where
the photograph begins.

Capture One is RAW photo-editing and tethering software. Its appeal is the connection between capture, image selection, colour and output: you can build the look of a shoot while it is still happening, then carry that direction into the final edit.

For a beginner, that means learning a repeatable sequence. For an experienced photographer, it means asking a more specific question: does the software make your actual jobs easier to shoot, review and deliver?

RAW + COLOUR

Build a stronger starting point.

Camera profiles, exposure controls and precise colour adjustments help establish your image before detailed finishing. Compare results on your own RAW files, especially skin, difficult highlights and colours that matter to the brief.

CAPTURE + REVIEW

Make decisions on set.

Tether compatible cameras directly into the application. Review a larger image, use supported Live View options and carry an initial look into new captures with Next Capture Adjustments.

CONSISTENCY + OUTPUT

Give every image a destination.

Use a clear selection system, a consistent editing sequence and deliberate export settings. An organised process matters as much as any individual slider when you have a client waiting for a coherent set.

Feature overview: Capture One Pro. Camera-dependent functions require a separate compatibility check.

02 / Before you buy or upgrade

Check what your
Capture One account qualifies for.

The official loyalty page is the right starting point for existing subscribers and perpetual-license owners. Benefits depend on your account history and the current terms; opening this page does not guarantee a saving.

Check official loyalty & upgrade options ↗

Buying for the first time? Compare the current plans and trial options on Capture One’s website. Loyalty benefits are not a universal new-customer promotion.

Two routes to check.

Subscribers: Capture One advertises a 20% perpetual-license benefit per subscribed year, reaching a free current-version Capture One Pro perpetual license after five qualifying years. Future feature updates are excluded.

Perpetual-license owners: the official campaign advertises upgrade savings of up to 40%, with eligibility based on when you bought your license.

Check the full eligibility and redemption guidance before changing a subscription. Current support guidance covers qualifying history, cancellation before perpetual redemption, support-issued codes and regional differences. Multi-user plans have separate arrangements. Program terms can change.

A code is not the starting point.

This page provides no personal Capture One coupon and no affiliate tracking link. Go directly to the official loyalty page, sign in where directed, and verify the offer associated with your account.

Compare the full commitment.

Look at the version you receive, future updates, included devices, subscription renewal and local taxes. A lower initial price is useful only when the license and workflow fit the way you intend to work.

03 / How to use Capture One

A practical RAW editing workflow.

Start with a small set of photographs from one lighting setup. The aim is to build a sequence you can explain and repeat. These are suggested working habits, rather than a claim that every image needs every tool.

  1. Give the shoot a home.

For a self-contained assignment, create a clearly named Session and choose where the source files will live. Keep capture, selects and output easy to distinguish. A Catalog can make more sense for browsing and organising an ongoing library across projects. Decide how your files will be backed up before you clear a memory card.

Official guides: importing into a Session and using Catalogs.

  2. Select before you perfect.

Make an initial pass for expression, composition and technical problems. Use a small, consistent rating system: for example, one star for a candidate and a higher rating for a confirmed select. Review similar frames together so you spend editing time on photographs that serve the brief.

  3. Set the base before the look.

Choose a representative image. Establish white balance, overall exposure and the relationship between highlights and shadows. Look at the whole frame, then inspect important detail at a useful magnification. A reference neutral can help, but the final colour decision should also respect the lighting and the intended mood.

  4. Refine colour with a purpose.

Separate technical correction from creative grading. For a portrait, judge skin against the subject rather than an abstract ideal. For product work, compare against an appropriate reference under a controlled viewing setup. Make one meaningful change at a time so you can see what is improving and what is drifting.

  5. Carry the direction across the set.

Copy only the adjustments that make sense for the next group of images. Similar lighting may support a shared base; a new camera angle or changing daylight may need a fresh decision. Check the brightest, darkest and most colour-sensitive frames before treating the group as finished.

  6. Finish for the actual destination.

Agree the delivery specification before exporting: file format, colour space, pixel dimensions, naming and any sharpening requirements. A client proof and a print master serve different purposes. Open a few exported files outside the editor, check the result, and keep an organised copy of the source files and edit data.

Already experienced? Audit one recent job. Identify where time went: culling, matching colour, correcting individual frames, preparing proofs or chasing filenames. Use that bottleneck to choose what to learn next, rather than rebuilding a working process around every new feature.

04 / Tethering, iPad and delivery

Take the workflow
onto the shoot.

These tutorials move from Sony on iPad to Fujifilm on iPad, then to Sony wireless capture on a computer and a separate delivery service. Watch them in order or follow the setup that matches your camera.

02 / SONY + IPAD

Build a lighter tethering setup.

Explore Sony camera tethering to Capture One on iPad, with a cable connection followed by wireless setup. The published chapters separate the wired demonstration from the Wi-Fi configuration so you can follow the route that suits your kit.

Use the video as a setup walkthrough, then confirm support for your exact Sony camera, iPad, operating system and app version before buying accessories.

04 / WIRELESS + DELIVERY

Connect capture to client delivery.

A Sony-to-computer wireless tethering tutorial using Wi-Fi to bring photographs into Capture One, with Moodcase introduced as a separate photo-delivery service. A useful next step after you understand basic capture and editing.

Moodcase is a separate third-party service; its account, costs and terms are independent of Capture One. Offers mentioned in older video descriptions are historical and are not an offer from this page.

Wired or wireless?

Choose the connection by testing the real job. A cable is a sensible baseline for comparing transfer behaviour. Wireless may make movement easier, but your camera, network conditions, file sizes and distance can change the experience. Test a sustained sequence, not just a single successful frame.

RAW support is not tethering support.

Check your exact model for file support, wired tethering, wireless tethering and Live View separately. Then verify the required software version, camera settings and device requirements. Do not assume that another camera from the same brand behaves identically.

Use the official camera support table and the Capture One mobile overview.

Before a paid shoot: test the camera connection, sleep settings, battery or power plan, free storage and image destination. Confirm what happens if the connection drops. Keep a practical fallback available and check files are being recorded where you expect.

05 / Current software, considered

What’s new in Capture One?

As checked on 2 November 2026, the latest desktop release listed in Capture One’s official notes is 16.9, released 29 October 2026. These are software updates; camera firmware and compatibility requirements are separate.

Portrait finishing.

The October release adds Stray Hair, Skin Tone and Body Skin Retouching. Use them to reduce distractions and improve consistency, then inspect the result closely. Protection and mask controls help retain intentional detail.

More precise colour.

The Advanced Color Editor gains a Target picker, editable RGB and HSL targets, a redesigned colour wheel and Uniformity controls. These expand reference-matching and recolouring options; calibrated viewing and a suitable reference still matter.

Review and collaboration.

Assisted Review remains in beta, with per-face sharpness and closed-eye information in the Viewer. Multi-User Sessions leaves beta with export and Follow for collaborators; this feature is for Capture One Studio on macOS.

Read the 16.9 release notes and October feature overview for requirements and limitations. Back up Sessions and Catalogs before upgrading: the 16.9 database upgrade prevents opening them in older versions without restoring a backup.

The wider 2026 picture.

Earlier 2026 releases introduced Negative Film Conversion, Enhanced Denoise and Assisted Review. Second-generation wireless tethering expanded for selected Canon cameras. The August mobile update brought Enhanced Denoise, Color Balance, Heal & Clone and keywords to mobile.

Sources: release timeline, May update and August mobile update. Availability varies by platform, plan, camera and file type.

Upgrade for a reason.

Choose a feature that solves a real problem in your work, then test it on representative files. Keep a copy of a known-good project before converting it. A feature announcement is useful context; a successful test on your camera files is the stronger buying signal.

06 / Choose the right setup

Match the plan to the work.

Start with where you shoot and edit. Confirm current inclusions on Capture One’s website before paying: mobile access and studio collaboration features should not be assumed to be included in every desktop license.

07 / Questions before you commit

Capture One, explained.

Is there a Simon Songhurst Capture One discount code?

No. This page supplies no Capture One discount code or affiliate link. The buttons lead to Capture One’s official loyalty page, where eligibility and current terms determine any offer.

Can a new customer use the Capture One loyalty program?

The loyalty program is designed for existing subscribers and license owners. A new customer should compare current plans and trial options on Capture One’s website rather than assume a loyalty discount applies.

How do I check my loyalty or upgrade eligibility?

Open the official loyalty page and check the current terms. Perpetual-license owners can sign in to their Capture One account to see upgrade offers; subscribers should contact Capture One support to verify their subscription history and redemption process.

Is Capture One suitable for beginners?

Yes. Begin with one Session, a small set of RAW files, exposure and white balance, a simple rating system and a JPEG export. The first tutorial on this page demonstrates that route on a Mac using an earlier version.

Can I tether my camera to an iPad?

Capture One mobile supports tethering with compatible cameras and Apple devices. Check the current support documentation for your exact camera, device, operating system, wired or wireless connection, and Live View support. RAW-file support alone does not confirm tethering support.

Do I need Capture One Pro, mobile or Studio?

Pro is the desktop editing and tethering application. Mobile is for iPhone and iPad workflows. Studio adds production features for studio teams. Check current plan inclusions; desktop, mobile and team features should not be assumed to come with every license.

Does a perpetual license include future feature releases?

A perpetual license is tied to the version purchased or redeemed. It does not automatically include future feature releases. Check Capture One’s current license policy for maintenance updates and any paid upgrade route.

Can Capture One replace Photoshop?

Capture One can handle RAW development, colour work, local adjustments and many portrait corrections. Whether you need Photoshop or another editor depends on the job: complex compositing, extensive reconstruction and specialist finishing may still need a separate application.

Do these tutorials show the latest Capture One update?

These are earlier tutorials focused on foundational and camera-specific workflows. The separate update section summarises the October 2026 release; the videos are not presented as demonstrations of every current feature.
