Skillshare offer · review for creative learners
Skillshare is an on-demand membership built around creative and practical subjects—from photography and filmmaking to illustration, design, freelancing and marketing. The value comes from choosing a clear outcome, completing the project and applying it before moving to the next class.
Simon’s perspective
“A subscription only earns its place when a class changes what you make. I choose one problem, finish the project and put the lesson into a real shoot or client workflow.”Simon Songhurst · Photographer & filmmaker
Skillshare works well when I want to explore a technique without committing to a long formal programme. Shorter lessons make it possible to learn around production and travel, while class projects give the subject somewhere to land beyond passive viewing.
The breadth is both the attraction and the risk. It is easy to collect classes, jump between topics and mistake watching for progress. I get more value by deciding on a practical outcome first—improve a lighting approach, learn an editing technique, plan better short-form video or understand a business task—then selecting one relevant path.
Quality and depth vary by teacher and subject. Review the syllabus, sample lessons, project examples, instructor background and learner feedback. Skillshare is a learning library, not a regulated qualification or guaranteed route to professional results.
Strong starting points
Explore lighting, composition, portraiture, editing, filmmaking, storytelling and content production. Prioritise teachers whose portfolio and process match the work you want to make.
Classes cover graphic design, typography, branding, UI/UX, drawing, painting, animation and creative software. A specific project brief helps turn tutorials into usable practice.
Learn about portfolios, productivity, entrepreneurship, social media and client-facing skills. Treat legal, tax and financial material as general education and verify it locally.
What membership includes
An active membership provides access to the class catalogue across desktop and mobile. Classes cannot generally be purchased individually.
Curated class sequences can add structure around a skill or goal, while subtitles, transcripts and certificates or badges support different learning needs.
Class projects, discussions and community feedback encourage learners to make and share something rather than only consume lessons.
Before starting the trial
Write down one project you can complete during the trial. Search the catalogue and shortlist classes before entering payment details.
Read the signup screen carefully and note the trial end, annual price, currency and renewal terms. Promotional pricing may only affect the initial payment.
If you do not want the annual membership, cancel through Membership & Payments before the trial ends. App-store subscriptions must be managed through that store.
The free trial converts automatically into a paid annual membership unless you cancel beforehand. Skillshare says annual memberships also renew automatically; it sends a reminder before renewal, but renewals are generally not refundable.
Getting worthwhile results
Create a short learning list rather than saving dozens of classes. Begin with the one that solves the most immediate problem, schedule time for its project and keep notes beside the software, camera or material you are using.
Apply each lesson to a real piece of work. Recreate a lighting method, edit a small sequence, produce a brand exercise or publish a finished class project. That active step exposes what you understand and what needs another explanation.
Review usage before renewal. Count completed projects and useful skills—not hours watched. If you are no longer using the platform, cancel before the next billing date; access normally continues until the end of the paid period.
Skillshare offer questions

No separate code needs to be typed for this offer because the affiliate URL contains the promotional coupon information. Skillshare permits one valid offer code and does not allow multiple offers to be combined.
Unless you cancel before the end of the trial, Skillshare charges the payment method for the annual membership shown at signup. The subscription then renews automatically unless cancelled.
Yes. If you joined on Skillshare’s website, cancel through Account Settings and Membership & Payments before the trial ends. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, manage cancellation through that app store.
Skillshare’s discount guidance states that codes do not apply to future recurring payments. Treat the 10% as an initial eligible offer and check the renewal price displayed in your account.
The catalogue covers photography, filmmaking, illustration, design, animation, crafts, writing, productivity, marketing, entrepreneurship and other creative or practical subjects. Availability changes over time.
It can be good value if you complete relevant classes and projects across the year. It is poor value if you subscribe without a learning plan or only watch occasionally. Use the trial to assess teachers, class quality and your likely usage.
