YouTube Projects

A working extension of my photography and filmmaking practice.

What began as a way of documenting ideas, discoveries and working methods has developed into an important part of my creative career — combining professional photography, filmmaking, technology, education and more than two decades of commercial experience.

The connection
The commercial work provides the experience. The creator work gives me somewhere to explore it, develop it and share it.
01 / Why

Why
YouTube?

YouTube began as a natural extension of my work as a commercial photographer and filmmaker. Over the years I have realised that a substantial part of working creatively is not simply producing the final image or film. It is also about continually learning, testing ideas, refining workflows and understanding how new technology can improve the way we work.

It has also become one of the places where I have learned the most. Exploring filmmaking, editing, colour, sound, software and production through YouTube has directly influenced my professional work. Creating my own content felt like the natural next step: a way of documenting what I discover while sharing practical knowledge accumulated throughout my career.

Working + Learning
YouTube isn't separate from my professional practice. It has become part of the workflow.
02 / What I Share

Learning.
Testing.
Sharing.

My YouTube work explores the wider ecosystem surrounding professional photography and filmmaking: the software I use, the equipment I work with, the way projects are produced and the practical knowledge that comes from spending more than twenty years working commercially.

03 / Experience Worth Sharing

There is a great deal of professional knowledge that never makes it into a traditional photography portfolio.

After more than two decades working across commercial photography, beauty, lifestyle, editorial and moving image, I have accumulated practical knowledge that goes far beyond the finished images shown on a conventional portfolio website.

YouTube gives me somewhere to share that experience. Some subjects are highly technical, others are creative or business focused. They might cover photography software, a camera system, lighting, colour grading, a production workflow or one of the many smaller lessons that become invaluable when developing a professional creative practice.

It also keeps me learning. Producing content has pushed me further into filmmaking, editing, lighting, sound, colour and emerging technology — skills that continually feed back into my commissioned work.

04 / Keeping Current

Tools
With A
Purpose.

Working professionally means understanding how the tools around us are changing. Reviewing cameras, lenses, software, lighting and technology therefore became a natural extension of what I was already doing.

I am less interested in something simply because it is new. I want to know where it fits, what problem it solves and whether it genuinely improves the creative process.

Professional experience.
Shared openly.

My work on YouTube is now a significant part of my wider creative practice and has developed a community around photography, filmmaking, professional workflows, camera technology, software tutorials and creative business. It has also created opportunities to work directly with software developers, camera and technology manufacturers and other companies shaping the tools used by photographers and filmmakers.

For me, this sits naturally alongside commissioned commercial work: one side provides the experience and the other provides a platform through which that experience can be tested, expanded and shared.
