DXO PHOTOLAB 10
FOR FUJIFILM X100VI

Is PhotoLab 10 worth buying if you shoot with the Fujifilm X100VI?

Yes — DxO PhotoLab 10 supports RAW files from the Fujifilm X100VI. The more useful question is whether its strengths match the way you use this camera. The X100VI is designed to make you want to use the JPEG. That is part of its appeal, and a RAW editor should not pretend otherwise. The reason to keep PhotoLab in the workflow is for the frames where the JPEG is close but not enough: a bright sign that needs highlight recovery, an underexposed face, an evening street scene or a photograph that will be printed much larger than you originally expected.

SEE HOW EASY PHOTOLAB 10 IS TO USE

If you are considering PhotoLab 10, this getting-started tutorial gives you a much better feel for the software than a feature list alone.

I take a photograph through a real edit and show how quickly you can move from the RAW file to a finished image, including the tools and decisions you are likely to use in a normal editing session.

IS DXO PHOTOLAB 10 WORTH IT FOR THE FUJIFILM X100VI?

The X100VI is designed to make you want to use the JPEG. That is part of its appeal, and a RAW editor should not pretend otherwise. The reason to keep PhotoLab in the workflow is for the frames where the JPEG is close but not enough: a bright sign that needs highlight recovery, an underexposed face, an evening street scene or a photograph that will be printed much larger than you originally expected.

That distinction matters because the buying decision is not really about whether PhotoLab has enough sliders. Nearly every serious RAW editor can alter exposure, white balance, contrast and colour. DxO’s strongest case is what happens before the creative edit: camera support, demosaicing, DeepPRIME noise reduction and camera/lens-specific optical correction all contribute to the technical starting file.

For a fixed-lens compact used for street, documentary, travel and everyday photography, that can save time as well as improve quality. You do not have to turn every image into a technology demonstration. The advantage is that the file can be technically sound before you decide how much creative work the photograph actually needs.

Buying point: Street and travel photographers who already love the X100VI but occasionally need more highlight recovery, cleaner night files or a technically stronger print file are the obvious audience. Use the free trial with several of your own 14-bit RAF files before you decide.

WHAT PHOTOLAB 10 CAN DO FOR X100VI RAW FILES

01 / RAW QUALITY

DEEPPRIME

Noise reduction and demosaicing are combined at RAW conversion, giving you a cleaner file before later sharpening and local contrast make noise more visible.

02 / OPTICS

DXO MODULES

Measured camera/lens profiles can correct distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberration and lens softness automatically when the matching module is available.

03 / FINISHING

PHOTOLAB 10 TOOLS

Depth Masks, AI Masks, U Point controls and colour grading let you continue beyond technical RAW correction without leaving the application for every local adjustment.

DeepPRIME and the X100VI

A camera that is always with you gets used in light you would never plan around. The X100VI therefore produces plenty of high-ISO files even for photographers who normally prefer base ISO. DeepPRIME can help clean those RAF files before you add clarity, contrast or sharpening, which is important because those later adjustments can make colour noise and coarse texture much more obvious.

The sensible way to judge it is with your own difficult photographs. Pick one well-exposed low-ISO file, one genuinely high-ISO image and one frame that needs shadow recovery. Compare the finished export at the size you actually deliver, publish or print. If the cleaner file still looks natural and the important texture survives, then DeepPRIME is doing useful work. A 400% preview can encourage you to optimise for pixels instead of the photograph.

Lens corrections and the X100VI

Because the Fujifilm X100VI is a fixed-lens camera, the optical side of the workflow is especially easy to understand. The fixed 23mm F2 lens makes the optical side of DxO unusually simple. Every X100VI RAW file comes from the same sensor and lens pairing, so once the relevant correction data is loaded you have a repeatable baseline for distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberration and lens softness without managing different lens profiles. With no interchangeable lens variable, the correction can remain consistent from one shoot to the next.

DxO says its modules are built from laboratory measurements of cameras and lenses. That does not mean every correction should always be pushed to maximum strength. It means the software can begin from a technically informed baseline rather than asking you to guess how much distortion, vignetting or lens softness should be corrected.

Colour and the X100VI

Keep using Fujifilm Film Simulations when that is the look you want. PhotoLab is most useful when you want to treat the RAF as a digital negative instead of trying to reverse-engineer the JPEG. That is especially true for monochrome work, difficult mixed light or images where a subtler tonal curve is more important than matching an in-camera recipe.

PhotoLab 10 also expands the finishing side of the application with advanced colour grading, stronger AI selections, Depth Masks and expanded U Point controls. For buyers, that matters because a technically strong RAW converter is more useful when you can finish most photographs in the same application instead of automatically sending every file somewhere else.

MY RECOMMENDED X100VI WORKFLOW IN PHOTOLAB 10

You do not need a complicated preset stack. I would keep the first pass deliberately simple and let the RAW processing do the heavy lifting before deciding what the image actually needs.

OPEN THE RAW FOLDER

Start with the original 14-bit RAF files rather than exporting an intermediate TIFF first. PhotoLab can browse folders directly.

DOWNLOAD THE MODULE

If PhotoLab recognises a matching camera/lens module, install it before judging distortion, vignetting or edge sharpness.

SET EXPOSURE + WHITE BALANCE

Get the overall tonal and colour balance right before building local masks. Keep highlight recovery believable rather than forcing every bright area back into range.

CHOOSE DEEPPRIME WHEN NEEDED

Use stronger RAW noise reduction on genuinely difficult files. A clean low-ISO photograph does not need to be treated like a night image.

REFINE COLOUR

Build the creative colour after the technical correction, keeping skin and neutral tones believable unless a stylised result is intentional.

MAKE LOCAL ADJUSTMENTS

Use AI Masks, U Point or Depth Masks to work on the subject, foreground or background instead of pushing global contrast simply to fix one area.

EXPORT FOR THE JOB

Export JPEG for web and delivery, or a high-bit-depth file if the photograph still needs Photoshop, Affinity or another specialist finishing stage.

SAVE THE LOOK, NOT THE PROBLEM

Once you have a repeatable starting point, save a preset for your taste — but keep heavy denoising and aggressive local edits image-specific.

BEST PHOTOLAB 10 STARTING SETTINGS FOR X100VI

There is no single best preset for every photograph. A useful starting setup is about deciding which controls can safely be automatic and which should respond to the file in front of you.

OPTICS MODULE: ON

Use the matching module when available. This is one of the clearest reasons to choose DxO rather than treating PhotoLab like a generic RAW converter.

DEEPPRIME: IMAGE DEPENDENT

High ISO, underexposure and heavy cropping justify stronger denoising. Low-ISO daylight files often need much less intervention.

SHARPNESS: RESTRAINED

Let lens-specific correction do its job before adding extra global sharpening. Fine detail should look detailed, not crunchy.

CLEARVIEW: USE CAREFULLY

It can add local contrast quickly, but portraits, skin and already-crisp files can look over-processed if it becomes a default.

COLOUR: START NATURAL

Build the creative grade after white balance and exposure are stable. That makes it easier to know whether you are fixing a problem or adding a look.

EXPORT: MATCH THE OUTPUT

Web, social, print and further retouching all need different export decisions. Do not create huge files simply because the camera can.

DXO PHOTOLAB 10 VS LIGHTROOM VS CAPTURE ONE FOR THE X100VI

If your buying decision is being driven by RAW quality, DeepPRIME and optical correction, PhotoLab has a clear reason to be on the shortlist. Lightroom remains easier to justify if catalogue depth, Adobe cloud integration and a familiar subscription ecosystem are the main priorities. Capture One is still compelling for photographers who prioritise tethered capture, sessions and its colour workflow. Fujifilm shooters who already like Capture One’s X-Trans workflow may still prefer it for some jobs; the point of testing DxO is to judge the RAW detail and DeepPRIME result on your own RAF files.

Which would I choose for the X100VI?

If the question that brought you here is “What software will give me a clean, technically corrected starting point from my X100VI RAW files?”, PhotoLab deserves the trial. If your real problem is organising hundreds of thousands of photographs across devices, Lightroom solves a different problem. If you run tethered commercial sessions, Capture One may still be the centre of the job even if DxO is used for other files.

WHO SHOULD BUY PHOTOLAB 10 FOR THE X100VI?

STRONG FIT

PHOTOLAB MAKES SENSE IF…

  • You regularly shoot 14-bit RAF rather than relying only on JPEGs.
  • You care about fine detail and natural-looking noise reduction.
  • You shoot street, documentary, travel and everyday photography.
  • You want automatic corrections for supported camera/lens combinations.
  • You prefer a perpetual RAW editor rather than another compulsory subscription.
  • You are willing to test the result with your own files before buying.
MAY NOT BE NECESSARY

YOU MAY NOT NEED IT IF…

  • You almost never shoot RAW.
  • Your existing editor already gives you the result you want and speed matters more than a possible image-quality gain.
  • Your workflow depends heavily on cloud libraries, mobile editing or tethering features outside PhotoLab’s core strengths.
  • If the joy of the X100VI for you is shooting a recipe and sharing the JPEG immediately, PhotoLab may sit unused. Buy it for the photographs you actually intend to develop from RAW, not because every camera owner needs a desktop RAW editor.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY

Camera support and lens-module support are two separate checks. A supported camera lets PhotoLab process the RAW file. A matching DxO Module adds calibrated correction for the body/lens combination. With a fixed-lens camera that is a simple relationship; with an interchangeable-lens system, look up the lenses you actually use rather than assuming the camera name alone tells the whole story.

PhotoLab 10 is also more capable as an end-to-end editor than older versions. DxO added Depth Masks, more capable AI selections, expanded U Point controls, advanced colour grading and AI dust removal. That reduces the number of times you need to leave the application, but it does not mean Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture One or Affinity suddenly have no role. Buy software for the parts of your workflow it improves.

Use the trial properly. Do not install PhotoLab, open one perfectly exposed daylight frame and decide in five minutes. Test high ISO, deep shadows, fine detail, a lens that needs correction, skin tones and one photograph you have already edited successfully elsewhere. Then compare the finished output, not just the default preview.

DXO PHOTOLAB 10 + X100VI FAQ

Does DxO PhotoLab 10 support the Fujifilm X100VI?

Yes. The Fujifilm X100VI is supported for RAW processing in DxO PhotoLab. PhotoLab can process 14-bit RAF files from the camera. If you use an unusual compression or special RAW mode, test that exact file type during DxO's free trial.

Is DxO PhotoLab 10 worth it for Fujifilm X100VI owners?

It is easiest to justify if you regularly shoot RAW and care about noise reduction, fine detail and automatic optical correction. Street and travel photographers who already love the X100VI but occasionally need more highlight recovery, cleaner night files or a technically stronger print file are the obvious audience. If you mainly use straight-out-of-camera JPEGs, the value is lower.

Does DeepPRIME work with Fujifilm X100VI RAW files?

DeepPRIME is DxO's RAW-level noise-reduction and demosaicing technology. On supported RAW files from the Fujifilm X100VI, it is one of the main reasons to consider PhotoLab, particularly when ISO is high, shadows are lifted or the image will be cropped.

Do I need a DxO lens module as well?

The camera and built-in lens are a fixed combination, so the optical check is simpler. When the relevant DxO Module is available and downloaded, PhotoLab can apply calibrated correction for that known camera/lens pairing automatically.

Is PhotoLab better than Lightroom for Fujifilm X100VI files?

There is no universal winner. PhotoLab's strongest case is RAW conversion quality, DeepPRIME and measured camera/lens corrections. Lightroom has a broader catalogue and cloud ecosystem and may be the better centre of a large Adobe workflow. Many photographers can use PhotoLab alongside Lightroom rather than treating the choice as all-or-nothing.

Can I try PhotoLab 10 with my Fujifilm X100VI files before buying?

Yes. DxO currently offers a fully featured 30-day trial with no payment details required. Open photographs from your own camera, include a few high-ISO files and check the exact lenses and RAW settings you use.
