DxO ViewPoint 6 Is Here: What Actually Changes for Photographers

DxO ViewPoint 6 brings AI-guided ReShape Fusion, direct RAW editing and sidecar files. Here is what matters, who needs it and what it costs.

THE EDIT / Episode 1 / DxO ViewPoint 6.

DxO launched ViewPoint 6 on 20 October 2026, and this is a more interesting update than another automatic straighten button. The headline is an AI-guided version of ReShape Fusion, but the new standalone RAW workflow may matter just as much to photographers who do not want to pass every image through a separate editor first.

I spend a lot of time thinking about the relationship between what a camera recorded and what the finished photograph should look like. Geometry correction is useful, but it can also change the composition. That trade-off is why this release deserves a closer look.

ReShape Fusion now follows the object

The original ReShape Fusion approach used a grid laid across the photograph. In version 6, DxO says you can choose a grid, activate its AI option and draw a rectangle around the object to adjust. The software detects the selected outline or interior and builds mesh points around it. The standard uniform grid remains available.

For architectural work, that creates a different decision. Rather than straightening an entire street scene and accepting a new crop, you can concentrate on a leaning building or one distorted element. The surrounding image may still need care: moving one object can stretch nearby details, and propagation controls exist for a reason.

The new standalone RAW route

ViewPoint 6 can now open supported RAW files directly. DxO says the standalone application renders them with its camera profiles in DxO Wide Gamut, applies available distortion corrections from lens data, and provides exposure compensation and white balance. That removes the need to export a TIFF merely to begin geometry work.

Equally important, corrections can be saved to ViewPoint-specific sidecar files beside the original image. DxO says these remain separate from PhotoLab sidecars, helping prevent the two applications from overwriting one another's edits. Export is still available to TIFF or JPEG.

Where it fits alongside PhotoLab

ViewPoint 6 also works with Lightroom Classic and Photoshop, and its tools are available inside PhotoLab 10. I would choose the route based on where the original RAW development happens. If PhotoLab is already my starting point, I would not add an unnecessary round trip. If the job is primarily geometric, the standalone route is now a much more credible option.

UK price and the sensible test

DxO lists £109.99 for a new ViewPoint 6 licence and £69.99 for a qualifying ViewPoint 5 upgrade. It offers a 30-day trial without payment details. Those are launch prices, not promises about future promotions.

I would test three photographs: a building that needs vertical correction, a wide-angle frame with an object near the edge, and a shot where a normal perspective fix destroys the original composition. Compare the new local mesh against a conventional whole-image correction at the final export size.

My conclusion

ViewPoint 6 is most compelling when the photograph is almost right but a particular shape or proportion is distracting. It is less about making every building mathematically perfect and more about retaining the picture you intended to make. I would start with the trial before buying a licence purely on the strength of a feature list.

Frequently asked questions

Does ViewPoint 6 open RAW files?

Yes. DxO says the standalone application now opens supported RAW files directly, with edits saved separately in sidecar files.

Is ViewPoint 6 generative AI?

No. DxO describes its ReShape corrections as moving recorded pixels rather than inventing new image content.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. DxO currently advertises a 30-day trial. Check current requirements and supported camera formats before relying on it for a client job.
