A clearer route from LOG to a finished grade

See the video for a guide to the general ToneLab Chroma process. It demonstrates the workflow rather than a separate test of every camera below. Use the camera guides for profile-specific details.

01

Start with the footage you actually recorded

Why LOG needs a workflow

A flat image is only the starting point

LOG footage is designed to be interpreted and graded. The first useful question is which profile and colour space were recorded—not which creative LUT looks most dramatic in a preview.

A technical conversion and a creative look do different jobs. Establish the correct input, balance exposure and white balance, then decide how you want the film to feel.

Get the technical starting point right. Then spend your time making the image your own.

ToneLab Chroma brings supported camera conversion and creative controls into the editing workflow. It can simplify repeated steps, but you still need to judge skin, highlights and continuity between shots.

02 · A practical sequence

Four stages for a more consistent grade

01

Identify the source

Check the camera, recorded LOG curve, colour space and any processing already applied during export.

02

Convert once

Use one matching technical conversion route. Account for Resolve colour management before adding a plugin transform.

03

Balance the shots

Correct exposure and white balance, then match recurring subjects across the sequence.

04

Create the finish

Choose a compatible creative look, refine its strength and review the whole edit in motion.

03 · Find your camera

Your camera.
Your LOG workflow.

Choose a guide for the footage you shoot. The directory includes compatibility-check guides as well as models named by ToneLab; inclusion is not a blanket claim of verified plugin support.

04 · Before choosing a conversion

Three checks that save time later

01 · Check

Choose the right profile

D-Log, D-Log M and D-Log 2 are separate inputs. The same care applies to F-Log generations, Canon Log curves and Apple Log generations.

02 · Check

Check the exact support

Camera recording capability and plugin support are separate questions. Where the model or preset mapping is unclear, the guide makes that explicit.

03 · Check

Keep the original clear

An app export, proxy or baked-in look may change the input. Keep track of transformations before sending footage into another conversion.

Use the manufacturer references in each camera guide and ToneLab’s current compatibility list to confirm the exact input for your installed version.

05 · Common questions

Find the right starting point

Are all 25 guides confirmed ToneLab-supported cameras?

No. The directory also includes guides that explain an exact-input compatibility check. FX2, FX5, Osmo Nano, PowerShot V1 and Luna Ultra were not named in the public ToneLab list checked when those guides were prepared. Check the relevant guide before buying specifically for a camera conversion.

Where should I start if I have more than one camera?

Identify and convert each source correctly first, then match exposure, white balance and contrast between cameras. A shared creative look is most useful after those starting points are consistent.

Are Pocket 4 and Pocket 4P using the same LOG profile?

The Pocket 4 guide targets D-Log. The Pocket 4P guide targets D-Log 2. Check the recording mode on each clip and keep those inputs separate.

Which Insta360 Ultra guide is included?

This hub includes the Luna Ultra gimbal camera and its 10-bit I-Log workflow. It is separate from the X6 360-camera guide; it is not a GO Ultra page.

Do I need both a conversion LUT and a Chroma conversion?

Not when they perform the same technical transformation. Choose one deliberate conversion route and use creative processing that expects the resulting image.

Does the video demonstrate every listed camera?

No. It is a general ToneLab Chroma workflow demonstration. The individual camera pages provide the specific profile guidance and compatibility notes.
